Derrick Johnson, an American Photographer and Entrepreneur, born and raised in Harlem USA, studied at Bronx Community College. His academic major was Television Broadcasting / Mass Communications. He served as President of the Black Student Union and received a Leadership plaque by Student Activities in 1995 and The Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize in 2010. Derrick is also an alumnus at the Fashion Institute of Technology where he received "The Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries Award" and a degree in Photography in 2002. He gained hands on technical and theoretical experience in Professional High End Photography while employed at Pier 59 Studios (Premier Studio facilities in the Fashion Industry) 1999-2001.

Derrick's career as a Photographer in the entertainment industry began in 1990 when a friend of the family and fellow Harlemite Steve Manning (Celebrity Publicist mostly known for his personal and business relationship with the Late Great "King of Pop" Michael Jackson & the Jackson Family) introduced Derrick to the Key players in the industry at the time like Cynthia Horner Celebrity Journalist (former Editor in Chief at Right On Magazine/ Editor in Chief at Hip Hop Weekly Magazine), Hal Jackson's Talented Teens, (Hal Jackson pioneer in Radio Broadcasting; Co-founder and Group Chairman of Inner City Broadcasting), WBLS(Inner City Broadcasting) various other Radio Stations, Record Companies, Magazines, Advertising and Model Agencies.

In the late 90's Derrick Johnson met renowned Photographer Hugh Bell (born June 1927), while both photographers were photographing a job for WBLS (Inner City Broadcasting), Bell noticed Johnson's passion for the Art of Photography and extended his studio as well as his experience to Johnson. Derrick Johnson is the Founder of Derrick Johnson Media, LLC and BONIFACE Magazine an Online Magazine. Derrick Johnson Media, LLC is the Publisher of BONIFACE Magazine. He is a proud mentor at The Eagle Academy for Young Men, Which was founded by The One Hundred Black Men, Inc. Mr. Johnson is also on The Board of Advisors for the Change Create Transform Foundation, which serves as the umbrella organization for all Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize Scholarships, founded by Vikki Pryor.
